So excited to be back on the river ... in Columbus Georgia. Gotta love a studio with giant north lights, a kitchen at one end, and a workshop downstairs.
I think my Totality Week Adventure is finally coming to a close .... gosh I hope so. These three sketches, oil on paper, are based on basically the same image of the 21 August eclipse, during the two and half minutes of totality. For some reason I couldn't work the image out of my mind's eye. So I just kept painting it.
Here's a little cozy for my friend Meg Winston Macfadyen. Fourteen years ago, her Art & Invention Gallery created, just for fun, the midsummer Tomato Art Festival. It is now one of Nashville's most popular events, and features original tomato-themed art by fine artists from around the world. This is my second year participating .... this time with a little painting of Meg's cat, Dr. Nutty.

At this stage the Armenian textile is finished, but the rest of the piece is still underway.
Always nice to have several projects underway. About two days into this one; the blank canvas on the right will have interior elements for context .... the intention is to place objects in a arrangement that is at once abstract, and suggestive of interior-architectural forms.
Here's Serge after another day of work. The face is very close, but still not quite satisfied with the likeness, Will leave that to dry and go to the hat.
This is an unfinished study for a larger, formal portrait of Serge in dress uniform.... after two painting sessions - one for the tonal underpainting, and the second for the initial color rendering. Usually the likeness of the subject has been well established by this point, but not so much with this painting so far. By the end of the next session, it should really feel like Serge.
Walking School, finished over a year ago ... with Annie, Svetlana and the guardian hawk as they embark on their cross country walk, leaving Southwest Georgia early on a cold January morning.
Santa Knows, started In 2006, is a series of Santa paintings originally used each year for a Christmas card. Einstein was 2011 I think.
